Hi Everyone! I’m happy to be posting today. I had a great weekend update planned for yesterday, but I ended up with a nasty migraine and didn’t even go to work. Migraines are the worst. I used to get them very often while I was working at my previous job- I think they were all stress-related. I’ve tried keeping a log to see if I can find common denominators, but they always seem to be different. The list of migraine triggers is totally depressing, from WebMD.com:
Peanuts, peanut butter, and seeds (Peanut butter??? My favorite food in the world!!!)
Chicken liver and other organs
Some fresh fruit like bananas, papaya, citrus fruits, raspberries, kiwi and pineapple (!!! Most of these are in constant rotation in my kitchen)
Cultured dairy products, like sour cream and yogurt
Caffeine, in chocolate and coffee (good thing I don’t like chocolate…)
Aspartame and other fake sugars
Sudden change in temperature and high barometric pressure
So…quite a list, huh? I eat many of the foods on that list, am stressed sometimes, obviously exercise and I think I am sensitive to the change in weather. Since I used to get them so often at my last job and during college, both of which were extremely stressful, I think stress might be one of my bigger triggers. I was a little stressed this weekend, but the weather was weird and I ate a lot of foods on the list, so pinning down the reason is pretty hopeless. I am just thankful that I only get one every so often and not bi-weekly like I had gotten in previous years.
I spent all day in my room with my curtains closed and my sleep mask on. Here’s the idea.
Also, my sleep mask is a life saver when I have migraines.
Do any of you suffer from migraines? Any advice? Once I get one, all I can really do is sleep. Nothing else makes me feel better.
Foodie Pen Pal
On to happier topics! This month I participated in the Foodie Pen Pal program, run by Lindsay at The Lean Green Bean. Once you sign up, you get paired with a blogger or blog reader and mail that person a fun, foodie box of homemade, local or any kind of foodie items. A different blogger or reader gets your name and sends you a box. It sounded like so much fun, so I had to try it.
On the last day of every month, all the participants reveal their foodie packages. Here I go!
My awesome pen pal was Lynn, a blog reader. Her daughter, Alexandra, has a great blog though that you should check out: Popfitlife. It’s a combo of pop culture, her life happenings and healthy living.
Lynn lives outside Atlanta and sent me a box full of local treats.
Local peanut butter and chocolate fudge! I devoured these immediately for dinner :)
She noticed I like to drink with my friends, so she sent me these cute umbrella straws and cocktail napkins. I’ll need to buy some crusty bread to serve with that olive oil too. It sounds delicious!
The whole shebang! Lynn also included a copy of Atlanta and Southern Living magazines (Southern Living has some GOOD recipes I want to try!), some jalapeno and peach jelly call Jalopy Jelly (pour over cream cheese and serve with crackers- I can’t wait!) and even some toys for Teeny.
